Steve Wozniak and cryptocurrencies: praise for bitcoin and his Unicoin
In a March 5, 2022 interview with Business Insider, Steve Wozniak spoke highly of bitcoin, stating that cryptocurrency is ” the only one that is mathematically gold pure “.
Steve Wozniak, however, was less tender towards NFTs and most other cryptocurrencies. He deplores the practices of some cryptocurrency creators who only think about get rich on the backs of early investors in the project:
“It feels like they’re just collecting a bunch of money from people who want to invest at the very beginning, when it’s worth a few cents, and then they fold.”
The co-founder of Apple had already expressed his fed up with crypto scammers who used his image to promote fake giveaways. In 2020, he filed a lawsuit against YouTube and Google accusing the platform of not making enough efforts to protect his image from these scams.
Steve Wozniak is no mere observer or investor in cryptocurrencies. His TV show, Unicorn Hunters, launched its own cryptocurrency, Unicoin, in February 2022.
Unicorn Hunters debuted on Amazon Prime in May 2021. The show sees entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to seasoned investors.
The unicoin could, according to the co-founder of Apple, serve as a gateway to the world of investment in startups while indicating that “a token is not reliable in itself. It might not even be worth anything”.
Steve Wozniak nevertheless defends the seriousness of this project by affirming that “at least it is not based on zero, just based on words and lyrics. It’s really based on the results of the investments”.
Steve Wozniak had already launched another crypto project in December 2020. L’Effforce (WOZX) which presents itself as “the first blockchain-based energy saving platform” has been far from successful since. Will unicoin share the same fate?
