Bitcoin: paying your taxes in BTC, it will soon be possible in Buenos Aires

Citizens 3.0 – Buenos Aires gets up to date with the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The Argentine capital has a digitization plan that provides for the acceptance of tax payments in cryptocurrencies.

Paying taxes in bitcoin is almost possible!

The mayor of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, indicated during a Zoom conference on April 25, 2022, that the city will accept tax payments in cryptocurrencies.

According to Diego Fernández, Secretary of Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Argentine capital, the service will be available in the “coming months”.

However, the mayor clarified that the administration does not accept direct payments in cryptocurrencies:

“The city cannot include cryptocurrencies in public accounts, but we will integrate digital wallets into existing payment methods. »

Buenos Aires on the cryptocurrency route

Taxpayer cryptocurrency payments will therefore be converted in Argentinian pesos (ARS) by crypto companies. The city collaborates with local trading platforms such as SatoshiTango, Buenbit, Ripio, Belo, and Bitso, as part of this initiative.

The acceptance of cryptocurrency payments for taxes is included in the city’s digitization plan called “Buenos Aires+”. This plan aims to facilitate the relationship between the city and its citizens. Citizens will then have access to their personal data, documents and government services.

By relying on the blockchain, the Argentine government wants to automate 70% of administrative formalities, during the first year of implementation of this digitization plan.

For Diego Fernández, the deployment of the blockchain would offer a “transparent” digital system and would stimulate “citizen participation”.

The number of cities deciding to accept cryptocurrency tax payments keeps increasing. Colorado and Rio de Janeiro have also recently asserted, their intention to take this path.
