Cybersecurity publisher Bitdefender has just launched Scamio, a scam detection chatbot based on artificial intelligence. Free, it is already available in France.

It was presented last December, but Bitdefender’s anti-scam chatbot, Scamio, is finally available since Tuesday March 26, 2024. The tool stands out for its ability to analyze various online content, including e- emails, QR code, SMS and even links, thanks to natural language processing (NPL) technology. It thus allows you to avoid traps and other chains of hacker scams. Here’s how it works.

Scamio, a serious defense against online scams

While waiting for the famous anti-scam filter promised by the government for many months, Bitdefender has released Scamio, a detection chatbot which offers both rapid and surprisingly precise analysis of online scam attempts.

The tool is able to understand the context and content of messages, to provide an informed opinion on potential fraud. For our part, and after having tested its use on a fraudulent email and a fake Netflix subscription SMS, we can confirm that it constitutes a serious safeguard against the rise of online scams.

What’s more, Scamio offers personalized recommendations on actions to take, such as blocking or removing suspicious content. The detector uses artificial intelligence and technologies from the Romanian publisher, which is very present in France, to detect threats, even the most complex. But how does it work, as a user?

A very easy to use, and particularly effective, chatbot

To use Scamio, it’s very simple. Once you are on the chatbot page, you will need to create an account if you do not have Bitdefender access, providing your first and last name(s) and email address. From there, the possibilities are multiple. You can also submit your problem to the chatbot in writing, or ask it to analyze a link or a screenshot of a questionable SMS or email that you may have received.

In a few tens of seconds, the detector gives you a response, quite convincing it must be admitted. “ It’s like having a personal assistant you can chat with and always count on to help protect your digital life “, explains Ciprian Istrate, one of the leaders of Bitdefender.

Scamio is available from any web browser, via the address scamio.bitdefender.com/chat, free of charge and in French, starting this Tuesday, March 26. You can also use it from Facebook Messenger. Another advantage: everything is done online, you will not need to download it.
