Bitdefender Password Manager: a newcomer to the world of password managers

Becoming Bitdefender in 2001, the Romanian company Softwin, which in 1996 offered the AVX (AntiVirus eXpert) antivirus, quickly made a name for itself in the field of computer security. The firm currently offers many products, both for businesses and for individuals, including VPNs, antivirus, online payment systems and parental control solutions. The quality of Bitdefender software is regularly highlighted by expert firms. Once again this year, Bitdefender Internet Security received the market-leading AV-TEST Award Best Protection 2021.

The Romanian establishment is now enriching its offer with a password manager, a sector where Bitdefender was surprisingly absent until then. Soberly and logically baptized Password Manager, the software offers the minimum of options expected by this type of software currently. It can therefore generate complex passwords which will be automatically saved and offered when visiting websites. The software also allows you to manage your bank cards to facilitate online payment. You also have a verification system for the robustness of identifiers.

The solution works on Windows and macOS computers, but unlike Bitwarden, it omits machines running Linux. Naturally, an app for Android and iOS is also available and add-ons for Chrome, Edge and Firefox are also offered. Please note that the plug-in for Safari is not yet available, but Bitdefender announces an imminent arrival. Your data will be able to be synchronized between several devices, but apparently there is no solution yet to easily share identifiers within a group or family. Good point, Bitdefender Password Manager can be unlocked using a fingerprint or facial recognition, but the press release does not specify whether this functionality will also be available on computers.

Price, availability

Bitdefender Password Manager is already available. A free 90-day trial version comes with most Bitdefender home solutions. The independent service is charged $20 for one year of use. With this price, the software is positioned in the middle, some solutions being completely free, such as Keepass, others offering paid options up to €40 per year, such as Dashlane.
