- The bitcoin payment service provider Bitpay integrates payments with Lightning. This was announced by founder Tony Gallipi at the start of the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami.
- Accordingly, users can now choose between on-chain and lightning transactions when paying.
- “BitPay’s integration with the Lightning Network gives customers more choice and merchants more ways to get paid using blockchain technology,” Gallipi said while introducing the new feature.
- The company is thus taking an obvious step. After all, the Bitcoin blockchain itself is completely unsuitable for everyday payments. Lightning, on the other hand, processes payments within seconds and costs almost no fees.
- In 2019, the Bitpay service in Germany was temporarily discontinued. In the meantime, however, the company is active again in this country via a Dutch subsidiary.
