Bitter “London Game”: 275 million man Lawrence and his team are humiliated

Bitter “London Game”
275 million man Lawrence and his team are humiliated

The NFL season is going badly for the Jacksonville Jaguars – and it’s getting more and more bitter. In London, quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s team comes under the wheels. And that despite the opponent getting off to a slapstick start.

In front of an atmospheric backdrop at the Tottenham Hotspur football stadium, the Chicago Bears clearly won the second NFL London game of the season. Cole Kmet and Keenan Allen each contributed two touchdowns for head coach Matt Eberflus’ team in the 35:16 win against the error-prone Jacksonville Jaguars. D’Andre Swift stepped up in the final quarter. Quarterback Caleb Williams did well in the duel between the former top picks and Jacksonville playmaker Trevor Lawrence with four touchdown passes. Curious: Due to injury concerns, receiver Kmet also had to help out as a long snapper – and he did this job perfectly.

Jags coach Doug Pederson, who received a vote of confidence from the owners on Saturday despite the weak start, told the NFL Network during halftime that his team had “inflicted wounds on itself.” It was 3:14 and the Bears were still in sight. Because the favorites also got off to a nightmare start: In the first quarter, Caleb Williams’ team didn’t manage a single first down and only gained seven yards (!) of space. On one play, Williams hurled the ball at his O-liner’s head from point-blank range.

Gabe Davis dropped a pass in the end zone during a strong first drive for the Jaguars, but then the glory was over. And after the change, everything went downhill for the Jaguars: Jags tight end Evan Engram, playing for the first time since Week 1, fumbled after a reception on Jacksonville’s first drive of the third quarter.

Desperate Lawrence

The Bears turned this faux pas into points: Receiver Keenan Allen scored his first touchdown for the team from the Windy City. He then gathered his team for a tea party celebration in the end zone. A humiliating sight for the beleaguered Jaguars. With his touchdown at the beginning of the final period, Allen decided the game 28:10.

In the final minutes of the game, Lawrence, who had just extended his monstrous $275 million contract in June, seemed to despair of his pass receivers: Within a few plays, they were unable to convert two precise passes from their playmaker into points. But the highly paid quarterback, who was supposed to usher in a new era for the Jaguars, was not convincing either: he completed 23 of his 35 passes for 234 yards. There are two touchdown passes and one interception: not enough to have a chance of winning this afternoon.

While the Bears have won four of the six games of the season so far, it was the fifth defeat for the Jaguars, managed by Doug Pederson. After all, newcomer Gabe Davis scored the first two touchdowns in a Jaguars jersey, and Andre Cisco also managed the first interception of the season for his team.
