Striker Haaland has been injured for a long time
Very bitter for the Bayern pursuer Borussia Dortmund: Starting striker Erling Haaland is out for several weeks. It is the thigh again that is the last to plague him. BVB now has to show that he is not quite as dependent on the Norwegian as it often appeared recently.
Striker Erling Haaland will be absent from Borussia Dortmund for “several weeks” again. “He has a hip flexor injury that makes it impossible for him to play,” said BVB coach Marco Rose before the away game at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de.). “A little time will go into the country” before the exceptional Norwegian striker returns.
The 21-year-old Haaland had recently missed three competitive games due to a severe thigh contusion, but returned to the starting line-up in mid-October. The same thigh is now causing problems again. Rose didn’t want to judge whether it was a secondary injury: “I’m not a doctor.” Haaland played over 90 minutes in the 4-0 draw against Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday.
Haaland himself reacted disappointed. “It’s not good for us and not nice for the boy. Erling was really down yesterday. He was happy that he was back. After the game against Mainz, he hadn’t given any problems,” said Rose, who was also up in the storm Youssoufa Moukoko has to do without: “It will be very thin offensive now.”
After the bankruptcy against Amsterdam, Thomas Meunier (hit on the foot) and Nico Schulz (torn muscle) also reported injured. “This is the chance for the guys behind to show themselves and draw attention to themselves,” says Rose.
Haaland has scored nine goals and provided four assists in six Bundesliga games this season. One of the two games that the Norwegian missed with his thigh injury at the end of September and the beginning of October, the Dortmund team lost 1-0 to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The second they won 2-1 against FC Augsburg. In the table, BVB is currently in second place, one point behind Bayern Munich.
Again and again, Haaland is in focus because of a likely change in summer. Rose recently said he believes his top striker will stay beyond the end of the season. “I don’t think that’s unrealistic,” said the coach before the Champions League game at Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday in an interview with Amazon Prime: We should take every chance. “The 21-year-old who is hot by all European top clubs “Why shouldn’t a smart boy like Erling develop the feeling of staying another year?” asked Rose, adding that he saw “every chance” for BVB.
Haaland has a contract in Dortmund until mid-2024, but allegedly with a release clause for 75 million euros this summer. The association has not yet confirmed this. Now the Norwegian has to get well again first.
