As usual, GoPro is waiting until the fall to unveil its new action camera. This Hero12 Black takes the configuration of its predecessor released a year earlier and takes the opportunity to perfect its recipe and add a few features.

Getting started
This annual renewal of GoPro’s flagship camera leaves us wanting more. Certainly, the GoPro Hero12 Black is an excellent camera and still stays ahead of the competition, but the progress made compared to the previous version struggles to justify the appearance of this new model. No matter, since the action camera is sold less expensive than the previous one and remains devilishly effective in all situations while offering the best on the market.
Strong points
- 5.3K at 60 fps, 4K Ultra HD at 120 fps, 2.7K at 240 fps.
- Stabilization and maintaining the horizon always effective.
- Fixing and thread integrated into the frame.
- Autonomy and heating in progress.
- Automatic upload and editing with Quik subscription.
- 10-bit LOG mode and LUTs.
- Full compatibility with the previous range of accessories.
Weak points
- Little change compared to the Hero 11.
- Tedious management of menus and modes.
- Waterproof up to 10 m without housing (generally 18 m for the competition).

Getting started
GoPro is far from having said its last word in front of the long-toothed newcomers who come to seek the American manufacturer on its territory like DJI or Insta360. The Hero9 Black corrects certain defects of version 8 and takes up some good ideas from the competition. It certainly does not deliver the best image quality on the market, but it is so complete that it performs well without problem. With its ever more effective stabilization and its new horizon holding function, the Hero in version 9 always remains above the basket!
