Building on the success of the Boom in 2013, UE launched the Megaboom two years later, an XXL twin of the portable format. During its passage on our test bench, we celebrated its almost impeccable ergonomics while noting a lack of control over bass, distortion and frequency balance. The Megaboom 3, named so to maintain consistency in the range, promises to right the audio wrongs of its predecessor, and reveals a new “magic button”.

The Megaboom 3 offers an audio performance that is indisputably superior to that of its predecessor, thanks to better control of bass, distortion and spectral balance, which it trades for poorer connectivity: the absence of analog input combined with the significant Bluetooth latency, considerably hampers watching films, and the hands-free kit is no longer available.

More imposing, but much more capable than its little sister SRS-XE200, the SRS-XE300 retains everything that was good about the small model (robustness, endurance, handling), while remedying certain musical defects that the SRS- XE200 faces. Although it still remains a good step behind the excellent SRS-XB43, this SRS-XE300 is a highly recommendable transportable speaker for anyone who would like to add sound to a room in their house or an outdoor terrace.
