Following Chadwick Boseman’s passing in August 2020, Marvel quickly made the decision not to replace the actor for the role of T’Challa. Kevin Feige explains why.
First appearing in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther / T’Challa character played by Chadwick Boseman quickly became a central character in the MCU with Ryan Coogler’s film Black Panther released 2 years later and Avengers : Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019).
After the tragic death of the comedian in August 2020, Marvel could have replaced the actor as has been done on many occasions. However, Kevin Feige and the House of Ideas have chosen not to recast the character. A decision that Feige explains today in the columns of the magazine Empire.
“I had felt like it was far too early to replace him. Stan Lee always said that Marvel was like a window on the world. As extraordinary and fantastic as our characters and stories are, there is a human element to everything we do. The world is still digesting the loss of Chad. And Ryan [Coogler] used this lack to write Black Panther 2“.
After the loss of his friend, Ryan Coogler therefore took time to rewrite a script that pays homage to Chadwick Boseman.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the kingdom mourns the loss of its King and will have to face the world powers who wish to gain possession of the vibranium and a brand new enemy from the depths of the sea: Namor.
The film is due out in our theaters on November 9th, provided however that the discussions on the new media timeline which will take place on October 4th are acceptable to Disney.
