Black Widow: Scarlett Johansson nominated for an Oscar?

After an avoided trial last year, Disney and Scarlett Johansson are finally reconciled as the big-eared firm is trying to get him a nomination for the next Oscars.

The Walt Disney Company France

Every year, Hollywood studios launch promotional campaigns, called “For Your Consideration”, to get their films nominations for Oscars and other awards ceremonies. And Disney is no exception to the rule.

This year, the studio is betting on Black Widow, despite the complaint filed by Scarlett Johansson last July. The interpreter of Natasha Romanoff estimated that having released the film simultaneously in theaters and on Disney + was against his contract and that this had caused him a shortfall of several million dollars.

But a few months later, the two sides announced that they had reached an agreement before the case went to trial and even once again had joint projects including a film adapted from the attraction The Tower of Terror and a top secret Marvel project.

On their dedicated site to the voters in the awards ceremonies, Disney has therefore given pride of place to Black Widow, campaigning in particular for Scarlett Johansson to be nominated in the Best Actress category at the Oscars.

But she is not alone: Florence Pugh, Olga Kurylenko and Rachel Weisz are also considered for the category Best actress in a supporting role while on the side of the male supporting roles, David Harbor, OT Fagbenle, William Hurt and Ray Winstone are cited. .

Will the test be transformed?

While this is a fine attempt on the part of the studio, which would also like to see the film in the other main categories, including Best Feature, rare are the superheroic productions to have obtained this honor. This kind of blockbusters are often relegated to technical categories.

Of the MCU films for example, only Black Panther was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, which he did not get. The feature film worn by the late Chadwick Boseman, however, did not leave empty-handed from the 2019 ceremony since he won the Oscars for Best Costume, Best Original Music and Best Set.

That same year, the Oscar for Best Animated Feature went to another superhero movie: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Could Marvel Studios once again invest in the prestigious ceremony? Spider-Man: No Way Home, which Sony is also promoting as shown in the visuals above, will it come as a surprise? Response to the announcement of nominations on February 8 and then during the event on March 27.
