Black Widow: will we see Scarlett Johansson again at Marvel?

10 years after her debut in the MCU, Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, is finally entitled to her solo film. Will we see the superhero again after the feature film broadcast tonight on TF1?

Black Widow, the feature film centered on the adventures of Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson since Iron Man 2, released in 2010, is broadcast this evening on TF1.

In the action film directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow sees the darkest part of her past resurface to face a formidable conspiracy linked to her former life. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must reconnect with her spy activities and with ties that were broken long before she joined the Avengers.

It took 10 years for the first superheroine of the Avengers to be entitled to her solo film… Released in theaters in the summer of 2021, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, the blockbuster earned 379 million dollars at international.

Worn by Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, Ray Winston, William Hurt and Olga Kurylenko, the feature film had been in the works since 2004 (so 6 years before the heroine’s introduction in Iron Man 2) with Emily Blunt in the title role. But the project is finally put aside and in 2019, Kevin Feige and the creative team of Marvel decide to relaunch the film without making it a origin story.

Black Widow had been part of the MCU for 9 years already, her story had already been mentioned in previous films. The screenwriters therefore decided to place the action of this feature film between two already existing films. Thus, the action of Black Widow is between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel: it’s over for Scarlett Johansson

As a reminder, the character played by Scarlett Johansson dies in Avengers: Endgame released in 2019. Black Widow sacrifices herself so that the Avengers can recover the Soul Stone and save her friend Clint (Jeremy Renner), who was ready to sacrifice.

The Black Widow solo film is therefore a prequel, released two years after the heroine’s death on the big screen. Scarlett Johansson has also recently announced at the microphone of his colleague Gwyneth Paltrow in The Goop Podcast that she would not return to the MCU.
