BlackBerry: historic patents assigned to Catapult

(CercleFinance.com) – BlackBerry announced on Monday that it was going to sell its non-strategic assets to Catapult IP Innovations for an amount set at 600 million dollars.

The Canadian group specifies that the patents assigned relate to its historical assets in mobile handsets, telephone messaging and wireless networks.

BlackBerry, now refocused on security software and services for businesses and public authorities, stresses that patents essential to the pursuit of its activities are not affected.

Catapult is an acquisition vehicle (SPAC) created with the sole intention of accommodating legacy BlackBerry assets.

The company is financed in particular through the issue of a long-term bond for an amount of 450 million dollars.
