Blacklist: the final season shortened because of the writers’ strike?

Far from over, will the broadcast of the tenth and final season of “Blacklist”, which began in February in the United States, be interrupted by the writers’ strike? Will the number of episodes be reduced? We tell you everything.

Should the writers’ strike, which began on May 2 in the United States, worry fans of Blacklist, while the American channel NBC has so far only broadcast 12 of the 22 episodes announced on the counter of the tenth and last season?

For several days now, most of the series in production, from American Horror Story season 12 to Stranger Things season 5, via Good Trouble, Evil or Cobra Kai, have been stopped in Hollywood due to the decision of the Writers Guild of America [le syndicat des scénaristes américains qui protège leurs droits d’auteur, ndlr] to launch a strike movement after the failure of an agreement with the AMPTP (the Alliance of Film and Television Producers) aimed at raising the salaries, working conditions and copyrights of screenwriters.

According to the American media and specialists in the Hollywood industry, this large-scale strike – the first since that of 2007-2008 – could last at least until the summer, or even longer. Possibly postponing the start of filming for the next seasons of network series (Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1 or Young Sheldon for example), generally scheduled for the month of July.

The Blacklist series, carried by James Spader, does not have to worry about a possible delay in the launch of the 2023-2024 television season since season 10, in the process of being broadcast since February 26 across the Atlantic, has been announced as the last. NBC and the production having decided to put an end to the adventures of Raymond “Red” Reddington after more than 200 episodes and many changes behind the scenes (including the unexpected departure of Megan Boone, the interpreter of Liz, in 2021).

But what about this final season? Will it be amputated by several episodes?

The entire Blacklist season 10 already filmed

The good news is that the filming of this tenth and final season of Blacklist ended on May 1 in New York, as reported NBC Insider.

The writing of all 22 scripts for season 10 had been completed long before the start of the writers’ strike, despite a rather late launch date for this tenth batch, last February.

The broadcast of Blacklist will therefore end well, as planned, on July 13 in the United States with a final double episode which should, a priori, answer all the questions left unanswered. Starting with that of the real identity of Red, which many fans suspect of being in reality Katarina Rostova, the biological mother of Liz who would have undergone surgeries to change her face.

In France, season 9 has been available for a few weeks on Netflix, where Blacklist continues to meet with enormous success. No date has yet been unveiled for the French release of season 10 on the platform, which should not take place before the end of the year, or even during the year 2024. Case to follow.
