Blade as an Xbox Series exclusive? It smells bad for the PS5

The announcement of Blade, Marvel’s next big game, was very well received. However, a major question persists and is on everyone’s lips.

At The Game Awards 2023, Arkane Lyon announced its next title, a third-person action-adventure game based on Marvel’s legendary vampire hunter, Blade. The game, which will take place in Paris, marks a major turning point for the studio.

Blade, an Xbox exclusive?

The reveal of Marvel’s Blade by Arkane Lyon at the Game Awards created a surprise, with many questions raised about its possible Xbox exclusivity. In fact, Arkane Lyon, part of Bethesda Softworks under the Microsoft umbrella, raises questions about the game’s exclusivity on the Xbox Series X/S. VG247 sought clarification from Bethesda on which platforms will host the game, but Bethesda declined to comment at this time…

This isn’t the first time a game from a Microsoft-owned studio has been subject to speculation over its exclusivity. For example, Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 has been announced for the Xbox Series X/S and PC, but the final decision has not yet been made by Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios for availability on PS5 .

Unlike The Outer Worlds 2, a sequel to an existing franchise on multiple platforms, Marvel’s Blade is a new intellectual property, which makes the situation different and raises more questions about its exclusivity… And we can understand the fear of PlayStation players.

Other Microsoft exclusives

As for console exclusives, Microsoft has announced the launch of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 for 2024, following Towerborne and Ara: History Untold. With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we can expect an increase in exclusives for the Xbox Series. It remains to be seen whether Blade will be one of these exclusives. For its part, Sony did not bother with this question with its Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Who is Blade?

Blade, whose real name is Eric Cross Brooks, is a Marvel Comics character, created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. First appearing in 1973’s The Tomb of Dracula #10, Blade is a vampire hunter dedicated to eradicating all vampires from the world. He is unique as a dhampir, a human-vampire hybrid since his tragic birth, possessing superhuman abilities such as strength, speed, agility, accelerated healing, and immunity to vampire bites. Blade is also a master martial artist, swordsman, and marksman, and he has extensive knowledge of vampire folklore.
