According to the American site Deadline, Amazon studios has just confirmed the production of “Blade Runner 2099”, a series which will be the prequel to the film “Blade Runner 2049”.
Ridley Scott, the director of the first film made in 1982, will be present in the executive production of the series. Silka Luisa, the showrunner of Shining Girls, which will soon air on Starz with Elizabeth Moss in the lead role, will be in charge of writing the screenplay (she will also be executive producing).
Still according to Deadline, Ridley Scott could also end up directing. Amazon studios have just ordered the first scripts, and are already planning production dates. The director announced last November his intention to develop a series project centered on the Blade Runner universe, stating that a pilot and a draft script were already available, and that negotiations had begun with Amazon studios. .
Blade Runner is Ridley Scott’s second film adaptation project. An Alien series is currently in development, with Noah Hawley at the controls of this fiction whose filming could begin in the course of the year 2022 or 2023.
