A serious injury shocked the German ice hockey league (DEL) Top striker Brendan O’Donnell from Düsseldorfer EG severed the Achilles tendon in his right leg in a duel with a skate blade on Friday evening in the 4-1 draw at the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. O’Donnell was already operated on Saturday in Nuremberg. The 30-year-old Canadian will be missing from his team for months.
“This news is a shock for us. It’s very bitter for Brendan and the team and hits us hard,” said Düsseldorf’s sporting director Niki Mondt. He was the top scorer for the Rhinelanders last season. He was in good form again this season, having already collected 14 points, six goals and eight assists in 12 games.
