WASHINGTON, Feb 7 (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to the Pacific this week to remind the world that the United States’ long-term strategy is in Asia-Pacific despite growing tensions with Russia About Ukraine.
Antony Blinken will begin his trip on Monday, during which he will travel to Australia, Fiji and Hawaii to meet US allies and reaffirm Washington’s commitment to their side to counter China’s influence in the region.
The Secretary of State will participate in an informal meeting of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (“Quad”) countries – India, Japan, Australia and the United States – where coordination in the Indo-Pacific will be discussed.
This trip comes at a time when China and Russia showed their proximity to NATO and Taiwan on the occasion of the opening of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
