Biker gangs fight in the courthouse. Nevertheless, the process in the Bern office will be continued. The reasons.

Brawl in court, mass gathering of the Hells Angels in front of the office building: The bike trial is turbulent on the second day as well. And pushes the police and authorities to the limit.

For the Bern security director Reto Nause, the situation is not acceptable: “It is an option to move the court hearing to another location,” he said in an interview with SRF at noon. The willingness to use violence is very high and the use of the police is dangerous.

Riots at Rocker trial in Bern

«The situation is not good. We have to find a solution,” he said. The location of the courtroom on the main traffic axis at the bulwark is unfavorable, since all traffic, including public transport, is blocked in the event of skirmishes.

The court wants to continue the process in the office building

However, the court does not want to move the process to another location for the time being. “The court assumes that the trial will also take place in the Bern office in the next few days,” the court clerk told SRF. Nause’s statement had not been agreed with the court: “It was never an issue:”

When asked by SRF, Nause again emphasized that options were being examined in all directions in order to “defuse the situation”. However, a spatial relocation of the court venue is not easy and can be done overnight.

New location, new problems

And possibly create new problems: “Other places have other security challenges,” says Nause. The incidents at the edge of the Rocker process are constantly being analyzed and appropriate thoughts will be given to the further course of the process.

The questioning of the 22 accused will continue this week in the Bern office building. It is quite possible that supporters of the Hells Angels or Bandidos will show up again in front of the courthouse. “This means that the police must be ready with a corresponding contingent,” continued Nause. The order is still to protect the court and the hearing. And to prevent a confrontation between the two rocker groups.

Another option would be to intercept the Hells Angels and the Bandidos at the city limits so they can’t get to the courthouse. “After the events of the last two days, a lot is legally possible,” said Nause. But he does not want to go into the police tactics any further.

The skirmishes have caused uneasy feelings in some passers-by. Nause therefore advises the people of Bern to take a detour around the bulwark if the situation should escalate again. “It is a difficult, nerve-wracking police operation. The police are doing everything to keep it quiet.”
