Blocking, accident – WEGA operation after the robbery of the post office in Vienna

A raid on a post office on Thursday morning triggered a large-scale police operation, including WEGA participation. There were several roadblocks and two police cars collided during the operation. WEGA officials were able to arrest the suspect a little later.

At around 9:10 a.m., the perpetrator entered the downtown branch, pretended to have a gun in his jacket pocket, and demanded cash. The man then fled. Police cars collided immediately and the perpetrator was searched for intensively. “During the course of the search, there were temporary traffic blocks and a traffic accident between two police vehicles on Landesgerichtsstraße,” reported police spokesman Daniel Fürst. The accident did not cause injured officials, only property damage had occurred. 24 minutes from the robbery to the arrest. The alleged perpetrator could only be arrested a little later on the basis of a description given over the radio in Neutorgasse. Just 24 minutes had passed from the attack to the arrest. He was not armed and cash was seized. The investigation is ongoing.
