Block’s future Bitcoin wallet, at your fingertips

The BTC footprint – Block (ex-Square) by Jack Dorsey had confirmed in July 2021, that the company was going to manufacture a bitcoin (BTC) hardware wallet. The Twitter founder announced the news a month before. The wallet was then to allow, according to the company, to execute multi-signature transactions. At least two private keys would be required to sign and execute transactions. Block’s thinking about securing its BTC wallet has since evolved. The company now wants to offer a method of accessing its wallet, which would be easier than using a password.

A fingertip away from Block’s bitcoin hardware wallet

Block’s BTC wallet will feature a fingerprint sensors, according to a press release dated March 11, 2022. The fingerprint would thus be an alternative to passwords and seed phrases:

“We believe PINs, passwords and seed phrases are confusing and often insecure due to the workarounds normal people have to create given all the friction”

This fingerprint sensor will allow users to “unlock their wallet securely, but with ease”. Block’s crypto wallet will thus feature no screen, with users only having to “place a finger on the sensor rather than fiddling with tiny, failure-prone buttons on a hard-to-read screen.”

The press release nevertheless suggests that Block could still evolve the design and functionalities of its product, to meet the expectations of users of the wallet – other access methods, etc..

It is therefore not possible at this time to have a precise idea of the final rendering of Block’s bitcoin hardware wallet, but these updates on its product show that the project is moving forward. Any fresh news on Block and Jack Dorsey’s other bitcoin project, bitcoin mining ASICs that should improve the decentralization of cryptocurrency mining?
