Bloober Team, CD Projekt and GOG.com stop selling their games in Russia and Belarus

Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has faced a veritable outcry, even in the middle of the video game. Many developers have given their support to Ukrainians affected by the war, GSC Game World paused the development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl and the Ukrainian government asks playstation and Xbox to cut off their services in Russia.

This time it’s a major Polish studio taking action, in the person of CD Projectbehind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. In a statement shared today, the studio announces suspending digital sales and stopping the distribution of physical copies of its video games in Russia and Belarus. It is the same for GOG.comthe game platform without DRM which belongs to the Polish studio.

CD Project supports Ukraine, and even if he admits that he cannot really influence this conflict politically, he affirms that united societies can inspire change. Even if he recognizes that it is the Russian and Belarusian populations who are affected by his decision, populations opposed to this war, CD Project hopes that this choice will make it possible to raise debates on the current situation.

And Poland is united in this decision, because shortly after the press release CD Project, it’s Bloober Team which also announced the end of digital sales of its games in Russia and Belarus. The studio is known for The Medium, Observe, Blair Witch or Layers of Fear and generally has the same discourse as his Polish colleague on the need to act to make people react.
