blood donation is required

Even if containment is essential in the face of the virus, donors can continue to go to fixed collection centers. But fewer and fewer donate.

The French Blood Establishment (EFS) appealed to the French to continue their blood donations, despite the confinement. Currently, red blood cell stocks are "less than 15 days" and platelets, "less than three days". The red blood cells keep for a maximum of 42 days and the platelets for 7 days.
"Donating blood and platelets is essential for treating patients. The French must continue to donate blood!", Insisted the general director of the EFS Cathy Bliem, on Europe 1.

How to donate blood?

120 fixed collection points remain open during containment. To travel to these centers, as with all trips, you will need to complete the official certificate sent by the government, on the grounds of assistance to vulnerable people.

"Citizens are allowed to travel to donate blood at EFS collection sites, subject to filling in the official certificate or a declaration on honor stating that they will donate blood, on the grounds of assistance to vulnerable people. ", can be read on the organization's website.

Mandatory distancing measures have been implemented at all collection sites. Each person must respect a distance of one meter between the other donors and the collection staff. The latter, in contact with the donors, wear a mask all day.

"All precautionary measures are implemented on all collections to avoid the risk of virus transmission", explains the EFS, with safety distances and masks for the collection staff.
