According to Serbian state television, a man killed at least eight people and injured 13 others in Mladenovac. In the city near Belgrade, the perpetrator is said to have shot indiscriminately from a car.

The exact motive is unclear. Before the fatal shots were fired, the alleged perpetrator is said to have argued with a police officer before shooting him and aiming at other people. The police officer’s sister is said to be among the dead. The perpetrator fled the scene and has now been surrounded by police forces.

Call for stricter gun laws

On Wednesday, a suspected perpetrator, born in 2009, shot dead nine people and injured others at a school in Belgrade. The youth killed eight children and a security guard with a handgun. The next bloody attack followed in the middle of the three-day state mourning.

After the school shooting, calls for stricter gun laws were made. In response, the Serbian government suspended issuing new gun licenses for two years. In addition, the Ministry of the Interior is to carry out stricter inspections of gun owners in the next three months. It should be checked whether the firearms and ammunition are properly stored.
