Blow dry hair: You should avoid these mistakes

Dry and brittle hair? This can sometimes be due to the wrong hair dryer technology. Because if you think you don't have to pay attention to blow drying, you're wrong. Here we reveal which factors are decisive for healthy and shiny hair and volume.

Blow dry your hair – this is important to note

strains the hair, but very few of us want to do without quick styling methods. Therefore, it is all the more important to consider a few things. For example, the hair should not be blow-dried when it is soaking wet. Because the wetter the hair, the more sensitive it is. It is best to let them air dry for about a quarter of an hour after showering before reaching for a hairdryer.

And the blow dryer direction is also decisive. The airflow should always run towards the tips. Because what many do not know: When the air flows from the tips up to the scalp, the hair structure is unnecessarily roughened. As far as the temperature is concerned, the hair should not be additionally stressed by excessive heat.

The quality of a hair dryer is of course also a decisive factor. Old devices often do not have precise temperature control, while the newer models are usually even equipped with so-called ion technology, which counteracts a static charge on the hair.

Blow dry hair straight

Anyone who relies on sleek hairstyling should not always resort to a straightening iron. The hair is immediately exposed to a temperature of up to 200 degrees, which strongly attacks the structure and makes the hair dry, brittle and thin in the long run.

So rather straighten now and then with a normal hair dryer, which works wonderfully with this trick: blow-dry hair overhead and go through the lengths with a large round brush. This not only achieves the desired smoothing effect, but also creates volume in the hair.

Another professional tip: just throw hair back afterwards and blow dry briefly – this promotes hair elasticity and ensures longer-lasting styling.

Blow dry curls

Curls can also be intensified with a hair dryer – provided you use the right hair dryer technique. For this, it is particularly important not to set the hair dryer too hot, because curls tend to need humidity. In addition, curly foam or cream ensure that the hair remains supple and individual strands can bundle.

Ideally, a so-called diffuser is used as an attachment, with which the air is distributed over a larger area. Due to the warm and even airflow, the curls dry faster and get full bounce. The professional tip: work through the hair strand by strand and finally define the curls again with your fingers.

If you don't have a diffuser on hand, you can blow dry your hair slowly at a low temperature. Knead the hair again and again towards the scalp while blow-drying – this method replaces the curling attachment.
