Director of “Blue & Company”, in which he plays in addition to lending his voice to one of the characters, John Krasinski tells us about the imaginary friend of his childhood.
The opportunity was obviously too good. Since Blue & Company comes from an original screenplay, written by him, it was hard not to ask John Krasinski if he himself had had an imaginary friend. Or if he still had one.
“You will see, thanks to the film, that I still have one”he tells us. “I haven’t checked back on him in a while, but I’m going to have to. Because he makes his own answers. He does a great job.” A start of response which does not fail to make Cailey Fleming, the main actress of the film who is at his side at the time, laugh.
The former interpreter of Jim in The Office (with Steve Carell, who lends his voice to Blue in the original version) then becomes a little more serious again – not without some humorous touches – to evoke this imaginary friend he had as a child. And with whom he imagined experiencing film scenes when he walked alongside her in a video store.
Was this where the main idea for Blue & Company was born, even if it took time to germinate? Because John Krasinski also told us that he had long wanted to tell a story about imaginary friends, but also to make films that his own children could see, after the two Without a Sound.

A project that began to come to fruition during the pandemic: “When I saw the imaginary world in which they took refuge. It inspired me a lot as much as I was jealous of them. Then they started asking questions about the real world, getting more anxious, so I figured I’d write it down there.”
“So that they know that, even on days that are not so bright, there is always someone watching over you, a bubble of joy and imagination in which you can immerse yourself again whenever you want. ” And this is where one of the main strengths of this film, released on May 8, lies, which will delight and amuse children, but not without moving adults.
