BMW: a 100% electric “Motorsport” model

For BMW, it is a question of celebrating with dignity the fiftieth anniversary of its Motorsport division, the latter being in the midst of a process of transformation towards electric mobility. For BMW, it is about preserving the inimitable performance characteristics of its “M” models, while enriching them with new functionalities.

Four motors placed on each wheel

If the German manufacturer has already marketed its 100% electric BMW i40 M50 (536 hp), the latter serves here as the basis for the new prototype currently being tested. A prototype that uses a new M xDrive all-wheel drive system, not to mention a quartet of electric motors.

BMW explains that the front of the vehicle features a structure inspired by the BMW M3/M4 series, which ensures unfailing rigidity even in extremely dynamic driving situations. The prototype under test is also responsible for constantly analyzing the state of the road, the position of the pedal, the steering angle and many parameters, in order to constantly deliver the optimum torque to each wheel. It remains to be seen now when this 100% electric BMW M will be available.

Remember that the brand has already formalized a first SUV with the Motorsport badge, inspired by the XM concept, which will have a power of 653 horsepower (and 800 Nm of torque) thanks to a V8 engine and an electric motor. A version with 748 hp and 1000 Nm of torque is also on the program.
