Like many automakers, BMW quickly turned to electric. From 2023, the German group will offer no fewer than 15 electric models, including the BMW iX3, the imposing BMW iX, the BMW i4 and the recent BMW iX1, the brand’s latest electric compact crossover.

During our complete handling of the BMW iX1, we appreciated its sporty style, its reasonable consumption and the contribution of BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display screens. However, we have just had the first images of what seems to be its direct successor, namely the BMX iX2.

Indeed, our colleagues from the InsideEv’s site were able to see a BMW prototype circulates on German roads. As usual, the entire bodywork was covered with “camouflage” paint to protect the design of the hood, the bumper, the rear hatch or even the headlights from prying eyes.

But how do you know it’s the electric BMW iX2? First, you will observe that the grille is completely closed, while there is no exhaust at the rear. Finally, and this is another irrefutable proof, the self-explanatory “Electrified Vehicle” sticker is affixed just above the license plate.

One of the main differences between the iX2 and the iX1 is obviously the coupe-shaped roof and rear, which strongly recalls the line of the big BMW X4. At the front, the changes are much more subtle, the grille being very similar to that of the BMW iX1. If the cabin is unknown, there too, we should not expect a revolution. In particular, we should find the large on-board screens with BMW iDrive 8.

Even if the BMW iX2 has not yet been formalized by the manufacturer, we suspect that it should share the same powertrain with the iX1. Indeed, both models are based on the FAAR platform. Remember that the BMW iX1 is equipped with a dual-motor AWS system producing 230 kW (313 hp) for a torque of 464 Nm.
