Bob Dylan accused of sexual assault, the complainant retracts

Relief for Bob Dylan. A woman who sued American singer Bob Dylan for claiming he sexually assaulted her nearly 60 years ago has withdrawn her complaint, the artist’s lawyer said on Thursday. “This case is over (…) We are happy that the plaintiff has renounced this travesty of justice“Bob Dylan’s lawyer, Orin Snyder, said in a statement to the media, while judging”scandalous” that the file could have existed.

Ahead of a hearing this week in a New York court, the attorney had argued the existence of emails showing the “inconsistencies“of the charges and suspected the complainant of having removed these elements that could exonerate the folk-rock singer. Solicited Thursday evening, the lawyers for this complainant, who remained anonymous, did not respond.

The complainant had alleged that Bob Dylan assaulted her over a six-week period between April and May 1965 when she was 12 years old. The facts had, according to him, partly taken place in his New York apartment located in the Chelsea Hotel. She also claimed that the star’s behavior caused her “severe psychological damage and emotional trauma” and that Bob Dylan had physically threatened her.

The singer “abused his status as a musician to supply JC with alcohol and drugs, and to sexually assault him on several occasions“, argued the complaint. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 for “having created new poetic expressions in the great American song tradition“, Bob Dylan, 81, is considered one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. Among his most famous songs are Blowin’ in the Wind, The Times They Are a-Changin’or Like A Rolling Stone. This dark episode now seems behind him.
