Dominance victory leads Fürth to the top of the table

Efficient people from Fürth rush to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga – at least for one night. At the start, the Franconians clearly win in Sandhausen. VfL Bochum also keeps in touch with the top and temporarily jumps to second place. VfL will decide the game in seven minutes.

SV Sandhausen – SpVgg Greuther Fürth 0: 3 (0: 2)

SpVgg Greuther Fürth has earned at least one night at the top of the table in the 2nd division. The Franconians won 3-0 (2-0) at SV Sandhausen at the start of the 11th matchday and overtook Holstein Kiel, who could counter this with a win at Jahn Regensburg on Saturday.

Fürth, who had recently lost to 1. FC Heidenheim surprisingly after five wins in a row, pressed on a quick opening goal. But Kevin Behrens saved a spectacular header from Mergim Mavraj on the line (6th).

Combining was difficult on the deep grass, but SVS helped a lot: Julian Green (30th) was criminally free when he scored at the penalty spot, no Sandhaus defender was within five meters. Jamie Leweling tunnelled goalkeeper Martin Fraisl three minutes later to make it 2-0. There was little resistance from the hosts, who threatened to slide towards relegation ranks. That changed in the second half, but the best opportunities were missed. Fürth, on the other hand, was ice cold: Dickson Abiama scored the final score (88th).

VfL Bochum – SC Paderborn 3: 0 (0: 0)

VfL Bochum keeps in touch with the top. With a deserved 3-0 (0-0) against the Bundesliga relegated SC Paderborn and the jump to second place, VfL increased their chance of a Christmas party on a promotion place.

At the weekend, however, Holstein Kiel and Hamburger SV can pull past again. Paderborn suffered their third straight-to-zero defeat, and mediocrity threatens. Bochum had around 70 percent possession in a fierce first half, but by no means the better chances: Paderborn was close to the lead several times. Kai Pröger's shot at the near post was blocked (8th), Chris Führich failed because of VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann (40th).

However, the second half began with the huge chance to make it 1-0 – SCP goalkeeper Leopold Zingerle parried against Robert Zulj (47th), who seven minutes later completed a counterattack to take the lead and after an hour also scored with a penalty. The VfL played like unleashed, with the third goal by Simon Zoller (61.) the match was decided.
