Boeing: unmanned autonomous submarine delivered to the US Navy

(CercleFinance.com) – Boeing announces that it has delivered the ‘Orca Extra Large’ (XLUUV), ‘the first unmanned underwater vehicle’ to the US Navy, following the completion of acceptance tests.

The XLUUV, designated by the US Navy as ‘Orca’, is a new class of autonomous submarines capable of performing long-duration critical missions to achieve ‘underwater dominance in changing environments and disputed waters’.

‘It is the culmination of more than a decade of pioneering work to develop a long-range, fully autonomous underwater vehicle with a large payload capacity and the ability to operate completely independently of a host vehicle,’ said Ann Stevens, vice president of maritime systems and intelligence at Boeing.
