Bombardier: EU authorizes acquisition of Talent 3 by CAF

(CercleFinance.com) – The European Commission has approved, under the European Merger Regulation, the acquisition of the Talent 3 railcar platforms from Bombardier in Germany and Coradia Polyvalent from Alstom (and its production site) in France by the railway constructor Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (‘CAF’), based in Spain.

This decision follows the acquisition of Bombardier by Alstom which was cleared by the Commission in 2020 and under which Alstom committed to divest certain activities, in particular the Coradia Polyvalent and Talent 3 platforms.

CAF has yet to be approved as a buyer by the Commission as part of the implementation of Alstom’s commitments. However, the Commission concluded that the proposed concentration would not raise competition concerns given that the parties have limited market shares, are not close competitors and will continue to face credible competitors.
