In November, a freight train derailed after an explosion in Rybnoe, Russia. Now investigators have arrested a dual national who is said to have planted the explosive devices on the tracks. He is said to have confessed to having been commissioned by Kiev.

Russian investigators say they have arrested a man with Russian and Italian citizenship because he is said to have planted explosive devices on train tracks. Investigators said this happened as part of sabotage operations by Ukrainian military intelligence.

The man was born in 1988 and lives in Ryazan, which is about 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow. After his arrest, he confessed to planting homemade bombs on tracks in central Russia on November 11th, which caused a freight train to derail. The man’s name was not mentioned in the statement distributed on Telegram.

During the interrogation, the detainee made a confession and admitted that he had been recruited in February 2023 by an employee of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s intelligence service. He also admitted that he had completed sabotage training in Latvia with the “direct participation” of the Latvian secret services.

The information could not be independently verified. Ukraine’s military intelligence service could not yet be reached for comment. On November 11th, a freight train derailed near the town of Rybnoe, almost 180 kilometers southeast of Moscow.
