More and more restrictions, an increasingly distant comeback of the cinema … Do these films have to be postponed again?

Instead of easing, the federal and state governments recently decided to further tighten the corona. However, cinema operators and film distributors not only have to keep an eye on developments here, they also have to look anxiously at other markets such as the USA or Great Britain. Because even if cinemas in this country are allowed to reopen soon that it doesn't look like – what good will it do them if the cinema industry continues to lie idle everywhere else? Only when cinemas are allowed to open internationally will film fans in Germany be able to enjoy new films again. "James Bond: No Time to Die" has already been postponed several times and the targeted start dates for these blockbusters are virtually impossible.

On March 18, comic fans should actually see Jared Leto (49) as the Spider-Man opponent "Morbius" on the screen. And the real filming of the eternal arguers "Tom & Jerry" was planned for this day. With less than two months, this date is definitely too early – in the meantime "Morbius" has therefore been officially postponed to January 2022. A few days earlier than in other countries, the new "James Bond: No Time to Die" should appear in Germany on March 31st. This also has an updated theatrical release – will it finally be that far on October 8, 2021?

Cinema and popcorn again in summer at the earliest?

Experts currently suspect that a return to a reasonably normal everyday life can be expected from the summer months at the earliest. So it is at least more than unlikely that the cinemas will open again in April and May. The theatrical release of "A Quiet Place 2" on April 22, which has already been postponed by a year, will therefore also fall through. For Germany, September 16 would be the obvious choice.

With this forecast, cinema fans would have to accept the largest quantitative losses in May. The long-awaited solo appearance by Scarlett Johansson (36) as "Black Widow" should finally appear on May 5th. This date has not yet been officially postponed, but it just seems to be a matter of time. It is at least as uncertain whether the reboot of "Saw" with the nickname "Spiral", in which comedian Chris Rock (55) plays the leading role, will really come out on May 20th. Same game in "Godzilla vs. Kong" with the same cinema date.

Lead feet were amazed when "Fast & Furious 9" was postponed to 2021 at the beginning of the Corona crisis last year. What seemed exaggerated at the time, however, could not have been far-sighted enough according to the latest knowledge. The PS junkies' official release in theaters is still May 27th.

Is Tom Cruise ringing in the new cinema era?

At the moment it does not seem impossible that blockbuster cinema can only be expected again from the third quarter of 2021, i.e. from July. So Tom Cruise (58) and the makers of the "Top Gun" sequel "Top Gun: Maverick" can still look at the planned cinema release on July 8th. It would definitely be a worthy restart of the cinema if it were heralded by sky striker Pete "Maverick" Mitchell after exactly 35 years of abstinence.
