Bonnie Pointer: The member of the famous Pointer Sisters is dead

With hits like "I'm So Excited", "Fire" and "Slow Hand" the sibling band The Pointer Sisters became a firm fixture in the music business in the 70s and 80s. The sisters Ruth, Anita, Bonnie and June celebrated great success as a soul disco group. After June Pointer's early cancer death (1953-2006) at the age of 52, her sister Bonnie Pointer died on Monday (June 8). She was 69 years old.

Her relatives did not reveal what Bonnie Pointer died unexpectedly. Her sister Anita (72) said in a press release: "Our family is devastated and I, my siblings and the entire Pointer family ask for your prayers." Bonnie was her best friend with whom she spoke "every day". "We have never had a fight in our entire life," continued Anita Pointer.

Unique look

Anita, Bonnie and June Pointer founded The Pointer Sisters in 1971, and a year later their fourth sister, Ruth (74), also joined the band. The musicians became famous not only for their pop and disco sound, but also for their style of dress – a combination of unusual costumes and second-hand finds.

Despite the great success with her sisters – the Pointer Sisters produced more than 15 studio albums and won several Grammy Awards during their long career – Bonnie left the group in 1978 and started a solo career. In the same year, her biggest hit was "Heaven Must Have Sent You", which she released on the legendary Motown record label.
