Bonuses for teachers confirmed by the Minister of National Education

From May 2021, beginning teachers will be entitled to a bonus of 100 euros. They will also benefit from an IT bonus of 150 euros, starting next January.

A bonus paid during the first fifteen years of career! On Monday, November 16, the Ministry of Education announced that teachers' salaries will increase by 100 euros per month, starting next May. "This monthly bonus which will begin to be paid to them in May will range from 36 euros per month (for teachers at step 7) up to 100 euros net per month for new holders (step 2)", said Jean-Michel Blanquer in an interview with Le Monde. Thus, a beginning teacher will earn 100 euros more per month. While a contract worker at the start of his career will earn 54 euros more per month.

31% of teachers concerned

Indeed, French teachers' salaries are less than 7% at the start of their careers than the average for the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). "The bonus will benefit 31% of teachers" (including CPE and psychologists from the National Education), "during the first 15 years of careers for permanent staff and will be declining according to seniority", specifies the ministry.

An IT bonus of 150 euros

From January 2021, an IT bonus of 150 euros per year will be paid to teachers. In addition, concerning the 450 bonus for principals paid in November, it will be renewed next year even if the terms of this bonus "Will be the subject of discussions."

As a reminder, the ministry increased the 2021 budget by 400 million euros (500 million for a full year): around half of this envelope will be used for teachers at the start of their careers, "In order to promote the attractiveness of the teaching profession", indicates the ministry to teachers.
