The installation of video protection devices in Bassens, Lormont, Cenon, Floirac and in the Bastide district of Bordeaux has reduced the number of burglaries and property damage, according to the Gironde prefecture.

Some clichés die hard. In Bordeaux, the right bank still enjoys a bad reputation. Acts of delinquency and incivility weigh on the 90,000 inhabitants of the Bastide district and the neighboring municipalities of Bassens, Lormont, Cenon and Floirac. To alleviate this feeling of insecurity, the installation of video protection devices, supported by the State, is now bearing fruit.
Highlighting the partnership work carried out with the public prosecutor’s office, the national police and the municipalities concerned, the Gironde prefecture underlines a reduction in burglaries (-17%) and damage to property (-46%) in the area concerned, between 2021 and 2022. Over the same period, the facts elucidated are up sharply (+23%) as well as the number of people taken into custody (+10%).

Act in a more targeted and coordinated manner
This Friday, December 9, a meeting on security issues in this sector took place. It was co-chaired by the prefect of the Gironde, Fabienne Buccio, and the public prosecutor, Frédérique Porterie, in the presence of the mayors or representatives of the communes of the right bank. Some specific situations were mentioned which continue to affect the tranquility of the inhabitants, including in particular illicit installations and urban rodeos.

According to the prefecture,these results plead for the renewal of the chosen partnership approach, in the form of a dedicated priority objectives cell (COP33 Rive droite)“. This framework should allow the various actors involvedto act in a more targeted and coordinated manner on the situations of concern identified“. The defended objective is thedeployment of video protection in a logic of densification and shared operation of the network“.
