
Ten years after season 3, the fourth season of Borgen has been available since Thursday, June 2 on Netflix. Having become Danish Foreign Minister, the character Birgitte Nyborg will have to manage an international crisis.
Season 4 of Borgen is available from this Thursday, June 2 on Netflix. The opportunity for fans of the Danish series to find the character of Birgitte Nyborg, played by Sidse Babett Knudsenin her political adventures, ten years after the end of season 3. Appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, the former Danish Prime Minister will have, in these eight new episodes, to manage an international crisis after the discovery of oil in Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory, by a drilling company. She will have to stand up to China, the United States and Russia, three great powers who intend to benefit from this discovery.
Five years ago, Adam Price, the creator of the series, learned of a law stating that Denmark and Greenland should agree on a fair share in the event of the discovery of natural resources on the immense island. “When something is at the same time emotionally charged and eminently political, it’s the perfect combination for Borgen. I really wanted to propel Borgen into the modern era (…) I wanted to put the characters to the test of the fire”explained Adam Price to AFP.
Borgen star Sidse Babett Knudsen: ‘I was sure I would never touch it again’
For his part, Sidse Babett Knudsen, trained in France, no longer thought of resuming the costume of Birgitte Nyborg. “I was completely sure never to touch it again, I found it good and much classier than a lot of series that continue until exhaustion. I liked that we were done after three seasons, I think the story was told, that was enough”confides the 53-year-old actress who was however “seduced” by the scenario of this fourth season of the series. Announced in 2020 and shot in early 2021, season 4 of Borgen experienced a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
