This Friday, April 29, Boris Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for several financial offenses related to his bankruptcy. The former tennis number 1 was not at his first warning.

He was world number 1 in tennis. But now Boris Becker’s life has just changed this Friday, April 29. In effectthe British justice has just sentenced him to two and a half years in prison for financial offenses related to his personal bankruptcy. He is notably guilty of having hidden 3 million euros in assets and loans in order to avoid paying debts, he who has been declared in personal bankruptcy since 2017. The former top athlete is sentenced today for four counts including one count of removal of property, two of non-disclosure of property and one of concealment of debt.

Boris Becker is notably accused of having transferred hundreds of thousands of pounds from a business account to his ex-wives’ accounts but also for not having declared a house in Germany to the institutions. That’s not all, he also allegedly hid a loan of €825,000. This is not the first time he has been convicted. German justice had imposed a suspended prison sentence on him following cases related to the tax authorities. Boris Becker disputed the facts. During his hearing, he said in particular that he was “shocked by the situation. It was all over the news, I walked through the gates of Wimbledon and everyone knew. I was embarrassed because I was bankrupt”.

A new conviction

This case is a new disappointment for Boris Becker who had already had setbacks with the Spanish justice, in particular for work in his villa located in Majorca. Swiss justice had also pinned him for not having paid the pastor who had celebrated his marriage. In addition, Germany had fined him €500,000 for failing to pay 1.7 million in back taxes.
