Boris Becker: RTL plans TV feature film about his career

You may think of Boris Becker (52) what you want, but his sporting achievements cannot be dismissed out of hand. RTL seems to see it that way too. And so the station announced on Monday that the story of the former world-class athlete should be made into a film again, this time as a feature film. The actors Samuel Finzi (54, "Allmen"), Anna Schudt (46, "Ghost Travel") and Hans-Jochen Wagner (51, "Lore") had already been cast for the production with the working title "The Player".

The sports fairy tale also includes defeats

According to the broadcaster, the strip focuses on the sports history of the tennis legend. "35 years ago Boris Becker wrote a sporting fairy tale with his victory in the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament," said the information. Becker became the youngest Wimbledon winner in history at the age of 17 in 1985 – and remains so to this day. He won the prestigious tennis tournament in London, Great Britain three times.

"The RTL film 'The Player' starts from the beginning of Becker's extraordinary career up to his triumph in Wimbledon: soaring, bitter defeats and deep doubts." The new TV production is also intended to show "the uncompromising nature of professional sports" and provide insights "into the psyche and life of an athlete who rose to a tennis idol at a young age". The date of broadcast is not yet known.
