Hard times for Boris Becker: Three weeks ago, the tennis legend was found guilty of several charges in his trial for delaying bankruptcy. Now the verdict on the sentence has been announced in London.

Anxious hours lie behind Boris Becker, 54. Once celebrated and applauded as a tennis star, he found himself accused of delaying bankruptcy before a London court a few weeks ago. A jury found him guilty on four of the 24 charges. The sentence that would threaten him for this had not yet been determined.

Court decides on Boris Becker’s future

Becker dismissed the prosecutor’s allegations that he had concealed parts of his assets and a property in his birthplace of Leimen during the insolvency proceedings. His lawyer was able to convince the jury in 20 points. But the guilty verdict on the other four points should have devastating consequences for the 54-year-old.

“This conviction is a clear warning for those who believe they can hide their assets and get away with it,” the bankruptcy authority said beforehand, warning: “You will be investigated and prosecuted.”

London court announces sentence in Becker case

On Friday, April 29, 2022, Judge Deborah Taylor rendered her verdict in the Becker case. She was around 30 minutes late for the announcement, and according to media reports, the tension in the court rose by the second. Now it is clear: Boris Becker has to serve a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months. The tennis star has to take his punishment directly. In just a few minutes he’s on his way to Wandsworth Prison in south London. With good behavior, he can serve half the sentence on probation.

Boris Becker can appeal against the guilty verdict and the sentence.
