Anxious hours lie behind Boris Becker, 54. Once celebrated and applauded as a tennis star, he found himself accused of delaying bankruptcy before a London court a few weeks ago. A jury found him guilty on four of the 24 charges. The sentence that would threaten him for this had not yet been determined.

Judge Deborah Taylor has now rendered her verdict in the Becker case. It is now clear: Boris Becker has to serve a prison sentence of two years and six months – but with good behavior part of it could be suspended. The tennis star has to take the punishment directly, immediately after the verdict he goes to Wandsworth Prison in South London. Boris Becker can appeal against the guilty verdict and the sentence at a later date.
