However, he is less and less sure that he will finish his first… The cascading resignations in his government and calls from those close to him to leave have seriously hurt the conservative leader, whose political survival seems more uncertain than ever.
The double defection of two heavyweights from the government on Tuesday evening launched the movement. Ten minutes apart, Health Minister Sajid Javid and then Finance Minister Rishi Sunak announced their departure. The valve was open. It was the turn of secretaries of state and lower-ranking members of the government. The flow of departures resumed on Wednesday morning. At the start of the evening, there were already at least 38 resignations (out of some 120 positions in total).
