The double defection of two heavyweights from the government on Tuesday evening launched the movement. Ten minutes apart, Health Minister Sajid Javid and then Finance Minister Rishi Sunak announced their departure. The valve was open. It was the turn of secretaries of state and lower-ranking members of the government. The flow of departures resumed on Wednesday morning.
