On Thursday July 7, 2022, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation from the Conservative Party. He indicated that he would remain in power until his successor was appointed.
As the UK goes through an unprecedented political crisis, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation from the Conservative Party on Thursday 7 July. The 58-year-old, however, indicated that he would not leave office immediately and that he would continue in office until a new Conservative leader was elected.
In an article published by the Mirrorsenior Tories have claimed that Boris Jonnson would have sought to drag out his official resignation for his wife, Carrie. Indeed, the couple married on May 29, 2021 during a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral. They then celebrated their wedding in the Downing Street garden, with only 30 guests due to Covid restrictions. Boris Johnson and Carrie would therefore have planned to organize a big partywith many guests, at the end of July.
Boris Johnson reportedly delayed his resignation to throw a party
Boris Johnson and his wife would like to celebrate their wedding party at checkers mansion. This place located in the county of Buckinghamshire is the holiday residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. His resignation as leader of the Conservative Party before the end of July would therefore prevent him from organizing his party at Checkers.
In the Mirrora conservative source commented on this: “It beggars belief that even after all the criticism Johnson has faced…one of the reasons he remains is to hold his wedding party at Checkers. It’s a national asset, not his personal home. The Johnsons should do what’s decent and find a different venue“. For his part, a spokesman for Boris Johnson defended him, explaining that his decision had nothing to do with his wedding party. “The Prime Minister has a strong sense of duty and will continue to serve his country until a new leader is in place only to continue his obligation to the public” did he declare.
