Liz Truss becomes the new Prime Minister

She was considered the favourite, now she has actually made it: Liz Truss will rule Great Britain in the future. The previous Foreign Secretary succeeds the outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who stumbled across a number of scandals. Conservatives are now hoping Truss will do better.
This is not a surprise: as expected, former Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is succeeding Britain’s outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson. This was announced by the Conservative Party in London. Truss thus prevailed in the election among the 200,000 party members against her rival, ex-Finance Minister Rishi Sunak.
She received 57 percent of the votes, Sunak got 43 percent. In polls, the 47-year-old was well ahead of Sunak. Sunak and Truss had previously prevailed in several rounds of voting by the Conservative MPs – among these, however, Sunak was still the clear favourite.
Shortly before the announcement, there was a moment of shock: a man was arrested in front of the Queen Elizabeth II Center in London, where the result of the party’s internal election was announced. As the PA news agency reported, he was taken away in handcuffs, who is said to have demonstrated for animal rights. The specific reason for the arrest was not disclosed.
The designated British Prime Minister has taken up the cause of strengthening the country’s financial industry. In the race to succeed Johnson, she promised to “really unleash” the City of London – the heart of British finance. The economic sector, worth the equivalent of around 192 billion euros, is one of the most important sectors in the country, which turned its back on the EU with Brexit.
