fun, news, tips … what else?

Born last December, two Siamese infants were successfully separated from each other in July, after an eight-hour operation.

This Sunday, October 3, the surgical team at the Amman Specialized Hospital announced good news: Ahmed and Mohammad, Siamese babies were separated last July. Three months later, the doctors declared the intervention successful.

Born in December 2020 in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, the two infants were in critical condition. Unfortunately, Yemen is a very poor country in which health services have been completely devastated by 7 long years of wars between rebels and power. Mohammad and Ahmed and their parents were therefore evacuated last February on board a medical plane bound for Jordan.
“When they arrived at the hospital, the babies together weighed only 3.7 kilograms”, said Dr Hammouri, director of the Amman Specialty Hospital, before adding: “We had to wait until their weight reached nine kilograms before proceeding with the operation.”

An 8h operation

After 5 months of waiting, the young Siamese were operated on by the medical team at the Amman Specialized Hospital, in total, 25 surgeons and assistants accompanied the hospital director during the 8 hours of intervention.

After the operation, the two young boys were transferred to the intensive care unit and were placed on artificial respiration for some time. “We wanted to be 100% sure that the operation was successful before reporting it” explained Dr Hamouri.
“The babies are in very good health and they will be able to leave the Jordanian kingdom within two or three weeks”, added the head of the surgical team.
“Their chances of survival are excellent and they are now out of danger.” they concluded.
