Borne encourages the rehabilitation of brownfield sites

Elisabeth Borne on Friday encouraged French industrial bosses to rehabilitate the thousands of wastelands left by the deindustrialization of the country, in order to carry out their factory extension or decarbonization projects.

There are between 90,000 and 170,000 hectares of brownfields in our country. We therefore have the land necessary to reconcile industrialization and land sobriety, but on one condition: to rehabilitate these wastelands, said Ms. Borne during a National Industry Council (CNI) held on Friday.

French industry needs 20,000 hectares to install new projects by 2030, she recalled during a brief speech at the opening of the meeting.

The National Industry Council, bringing together the leaders and unions of the main industrial branches and the public authorities, was held on the sidelines of the Bourget air show, also placed under the sign of the reduction of the sector’s carbon footprint. this year.

Industrialization for all territories

Interrupted in her presentation by the noise of a Rafale fighter plane in the middle of an aerial demonstration, Ms. Borne also noted that it was not yet an electric plane.

In addition to the Airbus, Dassault and Safran pavilions, the Prime Minister dwelt on the professions pavilion, while the airline sector, which is in full recovery after the Covid crisis, is facing recruitment difficulties, such as the rest of the industry.

She hoped that the ongoing industrialization would benefit all territories and announced the launch of the second phase of the Territories of Industry programme, a targeted public aid program for SMEs or innovative companies wishing to invest in order to modernize: 100 million euros euros will be in that envelope, she said.

On decarbonization itself, which requires large investments in electrification in particular to abandon fossil fuels, the Prime Minister detailed the use of the billion euros announced Thursday evening in public aid from the France 2030 plan.

Some 250 million euros will thus be opened for small and medium-scale projects, and 750 million euros will go to larger projects, based on emerging technologies, she said.
