Borsalino: what conflict has this film aroused between Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo?

On the occasion of the broadcast of the cult film Borsalino on Sunday January 9, 2022, from 9:05 pm on W9, Télé Star reveals to you why this film caused a conflict between the two sacred monsters of French cinema.

Released in theaters in 1970, the cult film Borsalino, worn by Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon, will be rebroadcast on Sunday January 9, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on W9. Realized by Jacques Deray, this feature film takes place in Marseille in 1930. It features the character of Roch Siffredi, embodied on the screen by Alain Delon, who is a young thug recently released from prison. He visits the owner of a cabaret, says “the dancer“, to find his companion Lola, interpreted by Camille Clouvel, but also because he is convinced that the Dancer, played by Christian de Tillière, gave it and had it sent to jail.

He finally sets fire to the cabaret and finds Lola on the indications of Dancer, but this one fell in love with a certain Francois Capella, another mobster embodied by Jean-Paul Belmondo, while he was serving his sentence. After a stormy encounter, the two men become friends and team up. At the beginning, it was Alain Delon who had the idea in 1968 to adapt the book of the journalistEugene Saccomano, baptized Bandits in Marseille, in a film where he would share the poster with Jean-Paul Belmondo. The two actors had briefly rubbed shoulders in a scene from the film Is Paris burning ?, before becoming headliners on their own.

Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon angry because of a contract problem

If the filming of Borsalino took place in good humor between the two sacred monsters of French cinema, a legal conflict will tarnish the success of the feature film in theaters, which had exceeded 4 million admissions when it was used on the big screen. In fact, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon se are opposed to the subject of a history of contractual formulation not respected on the film poster. Eventually, the former took the case to court, and won its case in 1972. The press of the time used this misunderstanding to speculate on the rivalry of the two stars., which ultimately served the success of Borsalino. In the end, the two actors reconciled, and even shared the movie poster. One chance out of two 28 years later, alongside a certain Vanessa Paradis.
