The Israeli army kills two Palestinian journalists in an air strike in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army now says they belonged to terrorist organizations. However, it is unclear exactly what threat the two posed.

The Israeli army has described two Palestinian journalists from Al Jazeera television killed in an airstrike in the Gaza Strip as members of “terrorist organizations.” Intelligence confirmed that Hamsa Wael Dahduh and Mustafa Thuria belonged to terrorist organizations based in the Gaza Strip, the army said. Thuria belonged to the brigade of the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas in Gaza City and Dahduh to Islamic Jihad.

Before Sunday’s deadly airstrike, the two men were operating drones that posed a direct threat to Israeli soldiers, the army said. When asked what kind of drones they were and exactly what threat the drones posed, the armed forces said they were “reviewing” it.

Al-Jazeera journalist Dahduh and his colleague Thuria, who also works for AFP and other international media, were killed in an airstrike on their car in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. A third journalist and the driver of the car were injured. Al-Jazeera spoke of a “targeted attack”.

Hamas atrocities

Dozens of journalists and media employees have been killed since the Gaza war began on October 7th. Most of the fatalities are Palestinians. On October 7, hundreds of fighters from Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by the USA and the EU, entered Israel and committed atrocities, mostly against civilians. According to Israeli figures, 1,140 people were killed and around 250 others were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.

Israel then declared war on Hamas and has been massively attacking the Gaza Strip ever since. According to Hamas figures that cannot be independently verified, more than 23,300 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory so far.
