Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc drives fastest in qualifying for the GP Miami. Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas is up front.
World Championship leader Charles Leclerc got along best on the new track in Miami. In qualifying, the Ferrari driver secured pole position for Sunday’s race with a lead of almost two tenths. His stable colleague Carlos Sainz and the two Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez will start in the Red Bull directly behind them.
Valtteri Bottas follows behind the top quartet of the currently strongest drivers. The Finn put on a convincing performance in the Alfa Romeo and earned the fifth fastest time. In the fifth race of the season, Bottas achieved a starting position in the top ten for the fourth time. Rookie Guanyu Zhou from the Hinwiler racing team, on the other hand, retired in Q1 after some good practice sessions and will only be able to start from 17th place on Sunday.
Hamilton ahead of Russell
At Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton was once again in the lead for a change. While George Russell (12th) had to say goodbye to the Miami premiere in Q2, the seven-time world champion made it to 6th place on the grid.
After the first three training sessions on the newly asphalted course around the Miami Dolphins’ NFL stadium were quite turbulent with many accidents and interruptions, qualifying went off without any major incidents.
